Lost Geekend

I’ve just been through the equivalent of a musical sweat lodge. I’m getting married in 3 weeks time and have spent the last three days at home alone while the future Mrs Scrambledmusic has clucked off on her hen weekend. My task for the weekend has been to compile a playlist for the evenings revels running from 7pm to around 1am, suitable for all, whilst reflecting our independent musical personalities (maaaaan). To add to the confusion, we asked for people to send us their suggestions for music which I’ve tried to incorporate. The responses ranged from ‘something for the wrinklies’ to the song which was playing the first time my aunt and uncle met (with full description of the scenario). To be honest, I’d rather work with the latter - at least it means something…

The result (well, part of it) is here:

Wedding evening playlist needle drop by scrambled music

You’ll notice that this is not the entire playlist. Significant compression has been attained using a script from Doug’s AppleScripts for iTunes. Wonderful resource. I used the Needle Drop script to extract 2 seconds from each song at 45 seconds in and record the result using WireTap. This, however was not enough. Here is the mark of geekness in me: not only was I enough of a temporary DJ (geek point #1) that I cared about transitions between tracks, but I cooked up another AppleScript, based on the aforementioned Needle Drop, which played the first and last x seconds of each track and allows you to switch between tracks (geek point #2). This script is available on my dropbox. If you are a Mac owner, copy it to your home/Library/iTunes/Scripts folder and you’ll also be able to listen to a user specifiable number of seconds from the beginning and end of all tracks within a playlist. Huge caveat emptor: I assume you’re comfortable with tinkering if you install this…
