Messing with my head in a baaaaad way, this album announces itself with a massive left-right pan. I love the lunched-out vibe that is in evidence here. Vocal delivery seems to owe something to Roots Manuva on helium (or a cooler Maxi Jazz from Faithless), but this is much less bombastic and more intimate than either.

The backing pulses along supporting the vocals perfectly: some really nice deep bass and production elements, plus some really great live (or at least live-sounding) instruments. Some of it’s reminiscent of Burial’s Untrue (Mercury nominated in 2008) - especially Longing For The Night ( Yeah Pause) - but less abstract and somehow more “honest” feeling. I can imagine driving through snow cocooned in this noise. Standout tracks for me: Finished I Ain’t and Survive It. This album sounds rooted in UK hip-hop but manages to bring something new to the table.
