Mercury Prize 2010 shortlist announced
I’ve just read the press release for the Mercury, and I’m very excited. There are some good looking albums on the list. Initial reactions follow…
- Biffy Clyro The Captain Looking forward to listening to this…
- I Am Kloot Sky at Night …and this. Could the blessing of Elbow give this a chance?
- Dizzee Rascal Tongue N’ Cheek Would they give it to him for a second time?
- Paul Weller Wake Up The Nation Paul Weller is a legend. Meant to be a good album. Will I think it’s ‘Dad rock’?
- Corinne Bailey Rae The Sea The future Mrs Scrambledmusic likes this one.
- The xx xx I like this one, in spite of a shambolic live experience. Bookies choice, but the Mercurys do throw up surprises fairly frequently.
- Villagers Becoming A Jackal The Folk one
- Kit Downes Trio Golden The Jazz one
- Foals Total Life Forever Mmmmm. Lots of buzz about Foals at the moment. They were good on the BBC’s Glasto coverage.
- Laura Marling I Speak Because I Can Another Folk one
- Wild Beasts Two Dancers I had a suspicion that Wild Beasts would be nominated. I’ve liked what I’ve heard so far.
- Mumford & Sons Sigh No More Another Folk one. Possibly the housewife’s choice following the blessing of St Stephen Fry of Twitter.
Tough one to call. I have a sneaking suspicion that Foals might have produced something that could win the Mercury. Will be giving the albums a listen and forming a better opinion. There are only two not on Spotify: Dizzee Rascal and Kit Downes Trio. For your listening pleasure and ease of use, I’ve created a playlist.
